About NBS buildings

NBS building at 12 Kralja Petra Street is located at the heart of the old city centre, just a few steps off the main pedestrian zone – Knez Mihailova Street, the Cathedral Church and the Kalemegdan Fortress. A number of other important cultural and historic monuments are located in the vicinity;

The edifice of the National Bank at Kralja Petra Street was designed by Kontantin Jovanović in the Neorenaissance academic style. As a monument of outstanding architectural and artistic value and one of the largest and most beautiful 19th century buildings in Belgrade, it was listed as a monument of culture. The newly built Privileged National Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia opened its doors for the first time in 1890. An extension to the building was constructed in the same style between 1922 and 1925 to provide space for the increased scope of operations. What was once a tellers’ hall, now serves as a hall for holding exhibitions and conducting educational activities.
