Secondary school

Programmes are aimed at young people aged 15–18 years, and are combined with exhibition displays.

Students will learn about the following:

  1. history of money,
  2. use of different means of payment and the manner of payment (cheques, credit and debit cards, online payment and purchase),
  3. preparing a simple plan of managing personal finance and analysing the results,
  4. importance of setting personal financial priorities,
  5. value of keeping personal financial records,
  6. importance of saving for the future,
  7. rights and responsibilities of the consumers of banking products,
  8. use of loans,
  9. elements of monetary policy and various economic phenomena,
  10. role of the National Bank of Serbia in protecting financial consumers (corporate social responsibility),
  11. impact of financial and consumer decisions on individuals and society at large,
  12. various banking products and how to use them,
  13. importance of financial literacy and a responsible financial behaviour,
  14. importance of the media and caution in regard to information about various financial products and services advertised by the media,
  15. financial fraud.

Workshops

  • Description: The dinar through history, from Serbian medieval money to today’s circulating currency.
    Aim:
    • to help children learn more than envisaged by their school curriculum;
    • to spark curiosity in children and eagerness to learn new things;
    • to familiarise children with the activities of the National Bank of Serbia, the only institution authorised to print our money – the dinar;
    • to familiarise children with the origin of the name and history of the national currency leading to today’s circulating currency.
    Duration: 45 minutes
    Target age group: 15–18
    Number of participants: Up to 20
  • Description: Participants learn how to create a home budget and practice annual budgeting by playing a game with envelopes. They explore the concepts of spending, borrowing and saving, in order to learn how to manage their own money and plan their budget.
    Aim:
    • to learn that money is not meant for spending only but also for saving, investing and donating;
    • to instil and cultivate financial culture in young people and foster financial intelligence around reasonable spending and handling of money;
    • to create awareness of the importance of spending plans, and the careful analysis of one’s needs, desires and possibilities within a given budget;
    • to recognize the risks associated with numerous advertisements and how they can affect one’s budget;
    • to understand the difference between gross and net income, budget surplus and deficit;
    • to learn that saving is not a luxury but can also be a safe haven;
    • to teach young people not to over-borrow;
    • to explain to young people that financial education will help them lower stress levels and sleep better.

    Number of participants: If played individually – 10, if played in two-member teams – 20, if played in three-member teams – 30.
  • The workshop stages a detailed simulation of everyday life situations and in a fun and educational manner encourages young players to learn about income and expenses that await them in the grown-up world. It takes them on a journey through four stages in life: childhood and early education, higher education and employment, starting a family and career, and retirement.

    It also clarifies numerous financial products, the method of electronic payment and the significance of financial literacy for a sound budget. The aim of the workshop is to teach participants to cope with life duties and challenges optimally and to save as much as possible for old age and pensions.
