Primary school

Programmes are aimed at children aged 7–14, and are combined with exhibition displays.

Children will learn about the following:

  1. money is not only banknotes and coins,
  2. history of money and the dinar,
  3. family income comes from different sources which are not infinite,
  4. financial crises exist and affect people and society at large,
  5. importance of having a budget/pocket money plan,
  6. importance of saving,
  7. unplanned spending is dangerous – priorities should be set,
  8. advantages of investment,
  9. influence of advertisements and other people,
  10. various banking products,
  11. money can be borrowed through a loan,
  12. counterfeit money exists – security features on banknotes and coins,
  13. role and tasks of the National Bank of Serbia as the central bank of the Republic of Serbia.

Description:

The workshop focuses on an interactive story about the history of money, from primitive means of payment to electronic money.

Goal:
  • to learn more about famous Serbs portrayed on nine circulating banknotes;
  • to develop logical thinking required for composing the elements and reconstructing reality.

Dinar – Our Money

Description:

The dinar through history, from Serbian medieval money to today’s circulating currency.

Goal:
  • to help children learn more than envisaged by their school curriculum;
  • to spark curiosity in children and eagerness to learn new things;
  • to familiarise children with the activities of the National Bank of Serbia, the only institution authorised to print our money – the dinar;
  • to familiarise children with the origin of the name and history of the national currency leading to today’s circulating currency.

Drawing a Banknote or Coin of My Choice

Description:

A drawing workshop at which children draw a banknote of their choice, using their own imagination.

Goal:
  • to stimulate and develop children’s creative skills;
  • to develop children’s creative and artistic skills.
  • to familiarise children in an amusing, interesting and comprehensible way with the essential features of banknotes;
  • to familiarise children with coins and banknotes and their key features;

Me and My Budget

Description:

Participants learn how to create a home budget and practice annual budgeting by playing a game with envelopes. They explore the concepts of spending, borrowing and saving, in order to learn how to manage their own money and plan their budget.

Goal:
  • to learn that money is not meant for spending only but also for saving, investing and donating;
  • to instil and cultivate financial culture in young people and foster financial intelligence around reasonable spending and handling of money;
  • to create awareness of the importance of spending plans, and the careful analysis of one’s needs, desires and possibilities within a given budget;
  • to recognize the risks associated with numerous advertisements and how they can affect one’s budget;
  • to understand the difference between gross and net income, budget surplus and deficit;
  • to learn that saving is not a luxury but can also be a safe haven;
  • to teach young people not to over-borrow;
  • to explain to young people that financial education will help them lower stress levels and sleep better.

If played individually – 10, if played in two-member teams – 20, if played in three-member teams – 30.

Workbooks

Through age-appropriate workbooks children learn about the history of money, importance of saving, banknotes and their secrets, key information about the National Bank of Serbia, the honorary governor for life – Georg Weifert, security features of banknotes, etc. Children actively participate and fill out pages in the workbook (dot to dot drawing, colouring pages, and questions games).
